BCom, MA (Melbourne), PhD (London School of Economics)
Dr Peter Jonson began his career as an economist at the Reserve Bank of Australia. He became Head of Research (Roughly 'Chief Economist') on 1981 and resigned after a conflict over the state of the economy with the Treasurer Paul Keating in 1986. He was CEO of two significant companies in the financial services arena but continued to write on matters economic. In the late 1990s he became a professional Company Director and was involved with ventures in remediation, defence, innovative manufacturing and biotechnology and as a director of Village Roadshow Ltd until late 2015.
In 2011 he published Great Crises of Capitalism and he is actively working on a second book with the working title of Confessions of a Monetary Policy Tragic. (Incomplete e-version available at address below this paragraph). This book will report current research on the relationship between monetary policy and asset inflation. This involves a first attempt to embed a hypothesis about the elusive subject of 'Animal Spirits' in a long term (1855 to 2014) model of the UK economy. Rigorous econometric testing is underway in partnership with Dr Clifford Wymer and will be presented initially at a conference at the University of Rome in June 2016.
Peter is Chair Emeritus of The Melbourne Institute's Advisory Board which he chaired for 11 years. In 2014 he was appointed an initial 'Distinguished Friend of the Cooperative Research Movement', having Chaired the Federal government's CRC Committee for five years and at different times chaired boards of directors in that sector. He has been a life-long painter of landscapes and now is spending far more time on that activity. He has invented a new catagory of painting called Econart, examples of which are available at the webpage below.
