Anthropology Day – Sydney

The anthropology departments/disciplines of Macquarie, Sydney and Western Sydney universities will come together to promote the discipline of anthropology.

Anthropology Day is a free event for Year 12 and FE students, and for teachers, careers advisers and parents.

Students can explore career paths with anthropology, compare undergraduate courses at all the university stalls, gain tips on university admission and interact with students who are currently studying anthropology.

10:00: Welcome to Country, and welcome to Anthropology Day from the Heads of Anthropology at University of Sydney, Western Sydney University, and Macquarie University

10:15: Food in Everyday Life, presented by Cristina Rocha and Malini Sur

10:35: Finding Culture in the Everyday: Shopping, presented by Neil Maclean

10:55: Undergraduate placements for study and research in Nepal, by a Western Sydney student

11:05: Culture as Difference: Sharing and the Gift, presented by Neil Maclean

11:15: 5 Minute Thesis Competition, presented by PhD students at Sydney, Western Sydney, and Macquarie Universities, moderated by Lisa Wynn, and judged by the audience

12:00: The Placebo Effect, Cultural Taste and Discernment: An Interactive Experiment / Workshop, presented by Lisa Wynn
