Bringing Back Our International Students

Bringing Back Our International Students: The Future of International Education Across Australia and New Zealand’

Australia and New Zealand are major education exporters and the current COVID-19 crisis has presented great challenges to the sector, education institutions, and international students and their families. Challenges include changing student cohorts, different modes of teaching, increased concern about visas and the provision of health care and other support services. These dimensions among others will likely play a crucial role in bringing back our international students.

The Monash Migration and Inclusion Centre brings together a panel of experts from RMIT, the University of Auckland, ISANA NZ and English Australia to discuss best ways to bring back our international students. Our panellists will consider the provision of quality education and appropriate health and other support systems to mitigate the current challenges and enable the resilience of universities, the sector, and international students. MMIC Deputy Director, Associate Professor Helen Forbes-Mewett will chair the event. Professor Sharon Pickering, Dean of Arts, Monash University will contextualise the topic with her introduction. The panellists include Professor Chris Ziguras, Brett Berquist, Trish Behan and Chris Beard.

Chair: Associate Professor Helen Forbes-Mewett, Deputy Director of the Monash Migration and Inclusion Centre and Discipline Head of Sociology, School of Social Sciences at Monash University. Her work focuses on human security, migration, cultural diversity, and social cohesion, with a particular focus on international students.
