Gaining and sustaining employment is widely recognised as a critical determinant of health, wellbeing, and quality of life, and unemployment and underemployment are major issues for people with disability. Customised Employment is an innovative approach that supports people with a disability to find and keep a job aligned with their aspirations. Scope Australia, one of Australia’s largest disability service providers, in collaboration with the Centre for Disability Employment Research and Practice (CDERP) and the University of Melbourne is currently researching the impact of Customised Employment for people with complex disabilities and how it might be best used within an NDIS framework.
As part of Social Sciences Week 2021, this panel discussion will explore the Customised Employment process and its potential to improve access to secure and sustainable employment for people with disability. The discussion will include insights from Scope on its trial, including an interview with a Scope customer who has participated in the process. There will be an opportunity for Q&A at the end of the session.
