Understanding Australia’s Crisis Coordination

The Australian Political Studies Association are sponsoring a panel discussion exploring the factors that determine contrasting levels of government efficacy in relation to disaster response. Comparing the experience of the 2019-20 bushfires where the federal government struggled to effect a co-ordinated response, with that of COVID-19 which prompted the Prime Minister to establish a National Cabinet and elicited bi-partisan support and action across all levels of governance, an invited panel of experts will aim to shed light on what has and has not worked well when coordinating national responses to crisis events, and what we must learn for the future.
