Academy Fellow

Professor David Chalmers is Distinguished Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Centre for Consciousness at the Australian National University. His work in the philosophy of mind and in philosophy of the cognitive sciences is at the forefront of developments in those subjects. In addition to his Australian position he is a Professor of Philosophy at New York University.

He was, until recently, a Federation Fellow and is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities. He presented the prestigious John Locke Lectures at Oxford University in 2010 (only the third Australian philosopher ever to do so).

His book, The Conscious Mind: in Search of a Fundamental Theory, published by Oxford University Press in 1996, was widely and enthusiastically reviewed internationally and subsequent work in the area of consciousness and philosophy of cognition has further established his international reputation.
