Academy Fellow

Leon Mann is a Professorial Fellow in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry, and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne and was Director of the Centre for R&D Leadership. From 1991 to 2003, he taught at Melbourne Business School where he was Pratt Family Chair of Leadership and Decision Making. His past teaching positions include Harvard University, University of Sydney, and Flinders University, He has held Visiting Professorships at Stanford University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and Keio University. He has been awarded Senior Fulbright and Japan Foundation Fellowships. During  During 2007-2008 he was a CSIRO Visiting Fellow.

Leon is a past President of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia (2000-2003) and of the Australian Psychological Society (1987-1988). He was elected Honorary Fellow of ASSA in 2006 and Jubilee Fellow in 2015.

Professor Mann has held Australian Research Council linkage grants with BHP, Orica, DSTO, CSIRO, Motorola, and Sustainable Energy Authority Victoria as industry partners in the areas of R&D leadership, knowledge sharing, and effective research collaboration. He chaired the Business Higher Education Round Table awards committee for excellence in R&D collaboration, was a member of the CRC Association awards committee for research excellence. He served on the Minister's National Research Priorities Consultative Panel and Expert Advisory Committee 2002-2003.

Professor Mann's publications deal with individual and group decision making, factors influencing innovation; models of leadership and communication; creativity in project teams; team climate and innovativeness; leadership and trust in project teams; and factors in successful research collaboration between industry and universities.

He is co-author with Irving Janis of Decision Making (1977). His other books include Social Psychology 1969, Developing Leaders in R&D (1994) and Leadership, Management and Innovation in R&D Project Teams (2005).
