Hal Pawson is Emeritus Professor at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. He was formerly Professor of Housing Research and Policy and Associate Director at UNSW’s City Futures Research Centre. He also retains a Visiting Professor position at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh where he was based from 1995-2011. Previously Hal was a housing researcher at the GLC, London Research Centre and London Borough of Hackney. His published research spans many aspects of housing policy and market analysis, including homelessness, social housing, private rental markets and home ownership. He is lead author of the Australian Homelessness Monitor series and a founder and ongoing contributor to the UK Homelessness Monitors project (2011-2025). His latest co-authored books include ‘Housing Policy in Australia: A case for system reform’ (Second Edition 2025). Through that volume (originally published 2020), through his other books, his numerous research reports and papers, as well as over 40 articles in The Conversation,
