Academy Fellow

For 36 years I worked as the Australian Broadcasting Corporations Election Analyst. In that time, I worked on the coverage of around 90 federal, state and territory elections. I also produced numerous results and redistribution publications for state parliaments and contributed to inquiries into the conduct of elections. I also compiled 150 years of election results and was co-editor of an Atlas of NSW Electoral History in 2006. I was actively involved in exposing the problems of the now abolished group voting ticket system for Senate and Legislative Council elections and helped design their replacement. I continue to work on understanding how Australians use the preferential voting system. I was made an Officer in the Order of Australia in 2017 for my work in helping public understanding of elections.
