Submission to the Expert Panel
On 2 August 2023 the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia made a submission to the Expert Panel undertaking the Review to Inform a Better and Fairer Education System.
The Academy strongly supports the review, which provides a timely opportunity to identify the reforms needed to achieve the national aspirations set out in the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration and commitment to meeting Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.
Our submission makes seven recommendations across three key areas:
- The education system based on the Academy supported workshop final report Building education systems for equity and inclusion
- The state of the social sciences in schools based on the Academy report State of the Social Sciences 2021
- Improving student mental health and wellbeing by increasing government funding and guidance for evidence-based universal programs and guaranteeing access to early intervention and targeted supports.
