For the first time in Social Sciences Week history, prepare for an electrifying clash between two brilliant minds: Academy Fellows The Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP and Emeritus Professor David Rowe. They will take to the stage and passionately debate the thought-provoking question: Does sport unite or divide us?

Purchase tickets here. A donation from each ticket will be made to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

But the excitement doesn’t end there! We want students across Australia to be part of the action by hosting their own debate at schools. To make it easy, we have created a free downloadable kit packed with everything you need to prepare and host a captivating debate that will ignite conversations and leave a lasting impact.

The kit includes:

  • a customisable poster
  • resources to find more on the topic
  • tips and tricks to host a successful debate, and
  • tips for crafting and presenting a persuasive argument.

Encourage teachers and students to dive into the social sciences, make their voices heard and spark engaging discussions.

Don’t forget to tag us on social media and use the hashtag #SSW2023 to share your debate highlights. The Great Debate is proudly supported by Synergy Group and the National Library of Australia.
