Distinguished Professor Katherine Demuth is Professor of Linguistics and Director of the Child Language Lab at Macquarie University. Her interdisciplinary research is crosslinguistic, exploring the mechanisms underlying how children (and adults) learn both the sounds and grammar of language. The findings provide a better understanding of how and why various populations experience language delay, with a special focus on bilinguals, children with hearing loss, and children with Specific Language Impairment (SLI). Professor Demuth is a member of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Cognition and its Disorders (CCD) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of New South Wales.
