Academy Fellow

Lisa Maher is a Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, UNSW Australia, Program Head at the Kirby Institute for Infection and Immunity, and National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Senior Research Fellow. She has international expertise in research, program development and service delivery with people who inject drugs, sex workers, people living with HIV and marginalised youth and her current research focuses on the prevention of infectious disease in vulnerable populations. Professor Maher has been the recipient of numerous awards including ASSA’s Early Career Award and, more recently, the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Reducing the Harms of Drug Use in Australia and the Asia Pacific, the NHMRC’s Elizabeth Blackburn Award, and the Order of Australia.
