Academy Fellows Professors Craig Jeffrey and Frank Bongiorno AM are among 25 eminent historians, linguists, classicists, religious studies scholars and other leading experts elected to the Australian Academy of the Humanities in 2019.

Professor Jeffrey’s work focuses on modern India, and in particular on youth cultures in contemporary Indian society. He is CEO and Director of the Australia India Institute at the University of Melbourne, and a Fellow of the UK Academy of Social Sciences.

Professor Bongiorno is a historian of Australian social and cultural life, labour and politics, and Head of the School of History at the Australian National University. He was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2019 Australia Day honors, and is also a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in the UK.

The Australian Academy of the Humanities is one of Australia’s four learned Academies, and in 2019 is celebrating its 50th year.
