On International Women’s Day, we celebrate women’s contributions to the social sciences and the way evidence based research reshapes policy, institutions, and everyday life. Today we would like to highlight the work of our Fellows whose research helps make communities safer, fairer, and more equal.
Jacqui True advances the Women, Peace and Security agenda and examines the political economy of violence against women, including sexual and gender based violence in conflict settings across the Asia Pacific.
Carol Bacchi developed the ‘What’s the Problem Represented to be?’ (WPR) approach, a cornerstone of feminist policy analysis. It shows how the way a policy defines a ‘problem’ shapes real world outcomes and can entrench or challenge inequality.
Rae Cooper researches gender, work and employment relations, strengthening the evidence on equality and inclusion at work, including job quality, flexibility, and women’s careers in male dominated industries.
Kathleen Daly has made major contributions to feminist criminology and research on sexual violence and justice responses, including how systems can better meet victim survivors’ justice needs.
Marian Baird is a leading researcher on women, work and care, including the design of paid parental leave and the drivers of workplace gender inequality.
We’re proud to recognise their work and the role social science plays in turning careful research into clearer choices for governments, workplaces, and communities.
