Survey Submission: Draft Statement on Consumer and Community Involvement in Health and Medical Research
This submission responds to a survey from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Consumers Health Forum of Australia (CHF) on the draft revised Statement on Consumer and Community Involvement in Health and Medical Research.
The Academy’s submission focuses on the absence of consideration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within the Statement. Our response proposes that the current review of the Statement offers the NHMRC an opportunity to set expectations and develop values, principles and processes that meaningfully involve First Nations communities – rather than treating this as a bolt-on – to transform Australia’s research sector.
