The Contemporary Corporation: Current Challenges and Future Directions
February 2021
Conveners: Associate Professor Vivienne Brand, Professor Margaret Davies and Associate Professor Rosemary Langford
Corporations are a critical part of modern economies: artificial creations of the law, they have underpinned the western world’s twentieth century economic miracle. One Nobel Prize winner described the corporation as ‘the greatest single discovery of modern times.’
Bringing together a diverse range of academics, legal practitioners, and policymakers this workshop will consider crucial issues in relation to the operation and future development of the corporate form in Australia. Participants will debate the changing situation of both conventional for-profit corporations that are increasingly held to high standards of social responsibility and not-for-profits which need to engage in commercial activities in order to better support their charitable or other purposes.
