Cheri Ostroff is a Research Professor in the University of South Australia Business School and former director of the Centre for Workplace Excellence (CWeX). Cheri’s takes a systems perspective in her research by examining the dynamic interplay of people and their work context. She focuses on how the practices and features of an organisation influence the attitudes, performance, and effectiveness of individuals, and, conversely, how individuals’ characteristics and behaviours collectively influence organisational functioning and effectiveness. For example, she examines how the personality and attributes of employees fit the characteristics of their organisation, and the implications of fit (or lack thereof) for employee well-being and organisational effectiveness. In understanding organisational effectiveness, she examines the dynamic interrelationships between organisational culture, climate, human resource practices, leadership, and employee attitudes and behaviour. The applied nature of Cheri’s research means that she contributes to science as well as provides practical solutions for organisations, which is particularly meaningful today given the continuing forces for change and the movement towards creating high-performing work teams and organisations.
