The Academy holds public forums involving policy makers, researchers, members of the business community and the general public on issues of national importance.

The Peter Karmel Forum (prior to 2014, the Peter Karmel Lecture) honours the late Professor Peter Karmel AC, CBE who served as the Academy’s President from 1987-1990 and who had a profound impact on higher education and public policy in Australia over many decades.

The Peter Karmel Forum is intended to provoke public discussion on a particular policy of Australian government, the policy making process itself, or comparisons of policies or policy processes found in Australia with those found in other jurisdictions.
