Professor Christina Twomey is a Professor and Head of History at Monash University, Vice-President of Academic Board and Director of the Faculty of Arts Focus Program in Global Conflict and Violence. She was previously an ARC Future Fellow. Professor Twomey is a cultural historian of war, with specific expertise about concentration, internment and prisoner of war camps; the history of trauma and captivity; and photography and film about atrocities. Her current projects include ‘Australia’s Asian Garrisons and regional engagement 1945-88’ and a history of the development of the concentration camp in the late-nineteenth century. An expert on both nineteenth and twentieth-century Australian history, Professor Twomey has also researched the history of humanitarianism and protection, the development of welfare programmes and the experience of poverty and dislocation.
