Profile
Professor Diane E Kirkby is Research Professor (Emeritus) in History at La Trobe University, Melbourne and holds a research position as Professor of Law and Humanities at UTS. Dr Kirkby specialises in labour history, especially as it intersects with law and feminism. She has written extensively on women's working history in Australia and the USA, the history of Australia's seafarers and waterside workers, and on Australian drinking culture and pubs, arising from her study of women's workplaces. She is currently extending her social and cultural approach to labour history through an exploration of women in non-traditional occupations. She serves on the Federal Executive of the Australian Society for the Study of Labour History as editor of their journal, has served on the Executive of the Australian Historical Association, the Australian-American Fulbright Selection Committee, and is a past President of the Australia-New Zealand Law and History Society.
