Professor Iain McCalman is Professorial Research Fellow in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Sydney. Among his many publications are Radical underworld: prophets, revolutionaries and pornographers in London (1988) and The seven ordeals of Count Cagliostro (2003). He was General Editor of The Oxford Companion to the romantic age: British culture 1776-1832 (1999). He is currently working on a book to be co-published by Nortons (USA), Penguin (Australia), and Simon and Schuster (UK) called Darwin's armada: how four voyagers to Australasia fought and won the battle over the theory of evolution.
