Professor Peter Mühlhäusler was the Foundation Professor of Linguistics at the University of Adelaide and a supernumerary fellow of Linacre College, Oxford. He specialises in language maintenance and language planning, ecolinguistics, pidgin and creole languages and intercultural communication. Recent projects include working on the languages of Norfolk Island and a cooperative Australian-German research project on the impact of German missionaries on the Indigenous Languages of Australia.

He has had a number of consultanies in the areas of educational linguistics, language planning and literacy.
