Academy Fellow

Professor Nick Martin is a Senior Principal Research Fellow at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research. He administers a research group of 80 investigating the genetics of numerous behavioural phenotypes including personality and cognition, social attitudes, alcohol and nicotine dependence, gambling addiction, anxiety and depression.

He graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1972 and obtained his PhD in Genetics at the University of Birmingham (UK). In 1978 he returned to a Research Fellowship at the Australian National University where, with John Mathews, he co-founded the Australian Twin Registry. After 3 years in the US he returned in 1986 to the Queensland Institute of Medical Research where he heads the Genetic Epidemiology Laboratory. He is editor of the journal of Twin Research and Human Genetics (formerly Twin Research) which is published in Brisbane .
