Academy Fellow

TIM HATTON is Professor of Economics at the University of Essex (UK) and at the Australian National University. He is also a Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR, London) and Research Fellow of the Institute for Labour Research (IZA, Bonn).

Professor Hatton's principal research interests are economic history and migration studies. His recent work in economic history includes unemployment in the long run, poverty and the welfare state, and the evolution of heights and health in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. His work on migration includes modelling international migration, the causes and effects of immigration policies, public opinion on immigration, and explaining trends in asylum applications and policy.
