Economic Uncertainty and Labour Market Change in Australia: Challenges for Public Policy from Income Volatility

TBC 2020

Conveners: Professor Peter Whiteford FASSA and Professor Matthew Gray

Short term earnings volatility – where household incomes can vary substantially and unexpectedly from month to month – is increasingly recognised as a challenge for a wide range of public policy areas. This workshop brings together experts from across social science disciplines to set out what is currently known about income volatility in Australia, what new data sources are required for monitoring these forms of instability, and to identify an agenda for policy responses to economic volatility.
