Tackling Gender-Inequality Through the Law: Improving Accountability for Gender-Responsive Laws at the Domestic Level

03 August 2020 (Day 1 – virtual) & TBC 2021 (Day 2)

Conveners: Professor Diane Kirkby and Dr Ramona Vijeyarasa

Women and men remain unequal in every country globally. The time has come to explore a relatively obvious response to this problem: embedding women’s rights norms into domestic legislation. This workshop aims to determine how well domestic laws work for women and what strategies can improve the gender-responsiveness of legislation. The outcome will be an evidence-based approach to measuring the effectiveness of the law in advancing women’s human rights.
