Families of Strangers? Socio-Legal and Technological Innovation in Donor-Linked Families
TBC 2020
Conveners: Associate Professor Deborah Dempsey and Professor Fiona Kelly
In memory of Emeritus Professor Louis Waller AO
Up to 60,000 Australians have been conceived with donated sperm, eggs or embryos and there is increasing interest among donor-conceived people, parents and donors in connecting with genetic relatives (‘donor linking’), through government-run registers, DNA testing and social media-based search strategies.
This workshop will bring together international social science and legal experts in the donor linking field to explore the relational consequences of statutory and informal donor linking practices in a variety of international contexts, in order to develop international and Australian law and policy.
